Yesterday I had the chance to go down to Infineon for another test day in the FS2.0 car. after dusting off some cobwebs we were able to get up to where we left off very quickly and make even more progress. I feel we will definitely be ready for the race there next month and I am very much looking forward to it!!

It was officially announced last week that I will be joining World Speed Motorsports for the remainder of the Formula Car Challenge season! I am very excited about this opportunity. I have had some great test days over the off season with World Speed in the F.S.2.0 car and can’t wait to test my skills on track!!

Hope you will all stay tuned!! My first race with the team with be in June but we hope to get in some testing before then. Until then it will be back to the iRacing, getting as many laps in at Infineon as possible!!

Trying to get better about keeping my website all up to date and current for those of you not on Facebook, and Twitter.

Hope everyone’s New Year is off to a great start! Still keeping those resolutions? I have kept most of mine so far!

I got the chance to do some more testing in the FS 2.0 car at the beginning of last month. We went to Buttonwillow Raceway in Southern California. I have tested there before so it was great to get back into the car again on a track that I am familiar with. It felt good to have such steady momentum moving in to this test from the one just a few weeks before. I felt it was a terrific day. I learned even more about the car, got more comfortable in it and really started playing around with the limit of the car and just how far you can push it before you wind up sideways! Which may not sound good, but it is something every driver needs to get familiar with in their race car, so that we can drive at the absolute edge of control. Its the only way to win.

Well, I can finally give you some answers!!! Rewind 6 months or so. I decided oval racing was not my first love and where I really wanted to be was turning left and right on the road course again. I moved back to Seattle from Charlotte to be closer to home and allow me to be able to put more focus into my racing (Instead of making minimum wage trying to keep my apartment). I put school on hold again and dove head first into my racing duties and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

After exploring option after option, with different series and teams to run with I came across the FS 2.0 series. Naturally, I was excited to be back in an open wheel, formula car again.

Last week, I had the opportunity to head South to Infineon and test in the car. After dusting a few cobwebs off It was an extremely productive day. I got adjusted to the car and had a great time! Felt good to be on the track again after being out of a race car for a year. I made a lot of progress and I am looking forward to carrying that momentum over into next month where it looks like I will be testing the car again. This time at Buttonwillow which is an excellent test track that I have had quite a bit of experience at.

Sunday’s race will be Smutny’s first race inside of a stock car. Even though she may be just beginning her stock car career, Smutny has plenty of experience in the driver’s seat and competing at a high-level of competition.

Smutny was one of only two women selected to participate in the 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup, where she had the opportunity to race at a handful of the most prestigious road courses in the United States.
The 20-year-old driver’s experience is not limited to just road courses. Prior to the Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup, Smutny raced midget cars on oval tracks, and that experience can be valuable as she passes through the stock car ranks.

“I’m really looking forward to getting my first race under my belt,” said Smutny. “I think that I’m going to have to be pretty aggressive on the track this weekend and in road racing you don’t get close to the other cars. This weekend will be about getting used to the competition and seeing what it’s like, because it’s a totally different world than what I’m used to competing.”

The 4/10th of a mile asphalt-oval track has been a staple for stock car drivers in the southeast for many years. The schedule of events for this weekend is packed with three days of activities at the track. Smutny will hit the track for the first time on Friday for an all day practice session. Saturday will be qualifying and the Fall Championship 200 for the Allison Legacy Series. The green flag will drop for Smutny on Sunday November, 7 which will also be race day for all the divisions that are competing throughout the weekend.
